ancientart:
Aztec skull with mosaic inlay of turquoise, shells and mother-of-pearl, Mexico.
On the forehead of the skull a snake has been depicted. Probably this person had a special connection to the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, the feathered snake. Mixtec craftsmen were very skilled in the art of making mosaics -only few objects of their work have been remained.
Courtesy & currently located at the National Museum of Ethnology, the Netherlands. Photo taken by ease.
